Special Issue on "Advanced approaches and applications of energy footprints to promote global sustainability"
Call for papers
Secure energy supply is one of the most important and also challenging issues for building sustainable cities, regions, andnations. The concept of “energy footprint” has been proposed to investigate energy metabolisms from a whole-supply-chain angle instead of single-stage “energy consumption”. Energy footprint approaches are especially useful, considering that ongoing globalization causes regions to become more interconnected with each other through inter-regional trade. This inturn means that the impact of consumption in urban areas and regions on global energy budgets goes way beyond their territories. Powerful techniques such as input-output analysis are able to link the production and consumption activities throughout the world economy, thus being able to play an important part in designing sustainable development pathways. System-based approaches are also emerging to address the nexus of energy footprints with environmental and social footprints, which paints a more comprehensive picture of sustainability.
The Special Issue is aimed at enlightening researchers, practitioners, and decision-makers alike, on progressesand challenges of developing advanced approaches and applications of energy footprint in global sustainability measurements.
Topics of interest
Topics of interestof this Special Issue include, but are not limited to:
🔶Assessment and interpretation of the impact of energy footprints on global sustainability;
🔶Advanced frameworks and approaches for energy footprints across various spatial scales (e.g. cities, regions, nations);
🔶Novel indicators and metrics for computing energy footprints of economies striving towards sustainability goals;
🔶Modelling techniques for in-boundary and cross-boundary energy metabolism through inter-regional trade;
🔶System-based perspectives and comprehensive tools for energy footprint management under globalization;
🔶Multi-goal optimization approaches analyzing the nexus among energy, environmental and social footprints;
🔶Cutting-edge applications for a deep decoupling of socio-economic development from energy footprints; and
🔶Data mining and database construction for local and global energy footprints.
